When my dear husband, son and son-in-law go hunting, whoever did not get drawn to hunt elk (or whatever) usually volunteers to be "camp cook". Sometimes, all three have been drawn so they all hunt all day and are much too tired and hungry when they return to camp to cook anything. With their Camp Cozy they can boil some water and put ramen, rice sides, pasta sides, instant potatoes, or something similar into a quart size zip lock bag with the boiling water and let it cook away in their insulated pockets. Now our daughter and her backpacking friend would also like some so I may as well also make some for the granddaughters, too.
For each Camp Cozy cut 2 pieces of fabric and a liner of Insul-Bright®
Cut your novelty fabric 8 1/4 inches by 22 inches
Cut your lining fabric 8 1/4 inches by 22 inches
Cut your Insul-Bright® lining 7 1/4 inches by 21 1/4 inches
- Sew the novelty fabric to the lining fabric (right sides together) along the 22 inch side, across the bottom and up the other 22 inch side with a 3/8 inch seam.
Insert the Insul-Bright® liner into the Camp Cozy. Place the shiny side of the Insul-Bright® facing the lining fabric.
Measure 9 inches up from the bottom of the Camp Cozy and sew a seam line across the width of the Camp Cozy. This will be the crease that makes the fold along the bottom of the Camp Cozy.Measure another 9 1/4 inches from that first line up towards the top and sew another seam across the width of the Camp Cozy. This will be the crease that makes the fold for the top flap.
Fold the top of the Camp Cozy to the inside and pin along the edge to finish the open end.
Fold the bottom of the Camp Cozy up along the bottom fold line.Sew along one long side (starting at the bottom), then continue sewing across the top and sew along the opposite side to the bottom.
Check to be sure a quart size zip lock bag will fit inside and it’s finished!
Note: if your fabric is not exactly 22 inches you could still make the cozy but the fold over flap will be shorter but it should still work. A fat quarter should be enough for two Camp Cozies (or just one if you use the same novelty fabric for the lining fabric).
