Another 301

My dear husband knows how much I love sewing with my Singer 301s.  My granddaughter was using one of them over the Memorial Day weekend during a visit to sew a project and it worked beautifully.
I already had two 301 machines in trapezoid cases - a black 301, and a  LBOW (light beige, oyster white) 301 with only one 301 card table that they can fight over.
LOOK what he found in his yard sale travels - a solid tan/beige 301 in a No. 65 Cabinet (which needs some love), so it has the 301 cradle.
One of the drawers was full of attachments, including a a buttonholer and a zig-zag attachment (which I didn't  know existed).
The lever to lift the presser foot did not work but after cleaning the machine working parts with kerosene and then oiling and greasing this little beauty, it all works and it sews a beautiful stitch.  I had to borrow the electric cords from my LBOW 301 because, sadly the electric cords that came with this machine are showing exposed wires so he will replace those.
I don't remember what I had planned to do yesterday- something about quilting and binding a quilt top - but I enjoyed giving my new 301 a spa day.

WIP and new to me 301A

My dear husband found another Singer 301A with the card table (tan instead of black) for me for Christmas.
I used it to make the Leaves blocks for Natalie Patton.  Natalie is making quilts for those who lost their homes in the fires recently.
It's a free paper pieced pattern that she will send to you via email if you ask her for it.  Her Facebook page is here.  She has several youtube videos to show how she makes these blocks that you can see here.
I had the pleasure of visiting Gatlinburg for a weekend in the 1970s and the beauty of the sights and sounds are so vivid in my memory that it still takes my breath away.

I have made a little more progress on my snowscape that I showed in my last post.  I chose 18 count fabric so it would be close to the size of a Christmas card but there are a lot of 1/4 stitches which (although not impossible on 18 count) are a little easier on 14 count.

Wishing a wonderful New Year for all.

Baby Quilt Finish

I don't know of any new babies but I couldn't help myself when I saw this picture (CLICK HERE).
I cut 6.5 inch squares of fabric and then made 6.5 inch 9 patch blocks.  I had to google to find out what size to cut the setting triangles on the sides and the corner triangles.  This is about 43 inches square.
I am going to give this to my daughter this weekend since it seems she has so many friends who are having babies.
I have not cross stitched much lately but if I can stop thinking about baby quilts for a while maybe I will have a finished cross stitch soon.

 EDIT:
I forgot to mention that I make the baby quilt on my "new to me" Singer 301 machine.  Once again my dear husband has brought me a present from his yard sale travels.  I can't tell you what a treasure this machine is.  I spent years thinking that a Singer Featherweight was the be all and end all of sewing machines and I would be ever so happy to have one of my own - and all of that is very true.
I never heard much or thought much about a Singer 301 but I must tell you I love the way it sounds and sews.  It's a great fit for me and we bonded so quickly.  It is shown in the sewing table that I use for my Kenmore which is about 3/4" taller so I had to put a board under the 301 so the top would be flush with the surface of the sewing table.  I believe this is called a "short bed" 301.

Happy stitching
