I have finished the Temperature Blanket for my granddaughter's graduation. It finishes at 45" x 61.5".
I am ever so pleased with how it turned out - especially that it is not overly large.
I am planning the next one for my other granddaughter. I am thinking of using a moss stitch for the next one. This stitch goes by many names including the linen stitch, woven stitch, and granite stitch. I will have to do a swatch first to see if I can approximate the finished size.
This (click here) is the inspiration for the crocheted edge on the blanket.
Scroll down to see a candy cane crochet border, which uses 2 colors.
I modified it for 8 colors by chaining 10 and skipping 7 instead of one for my border.
